About us

Long thought of as one of Yorkshire's prettiest villages, Thornton-le-Dale is home to TV's "Bangers & Cash", the beautiful Beck Isle Thatched Cottage, and, for more than twenty years, the renowned Brandysnap Bistro.

We're situated in the stunning North York Moors National Park, and close by are the seaside towns of Whitby and Scarborough (where most of our fish and seafood come from), the market towns of Pickering and Malton and the historic city of York.

We're Adam and Claire. We've worked hard to create a place where you will enjoy some of the most delicious home-made food around, served in comfortable and friendly surroundings.

Chef Claire combines the best ingredients, always sourced ethically and as locally as possible, to produce fabulous dishes. We pride ourselves on our warm hospitality and great customer service.

We were lucky enough in 2003 to stumble across this lovely characterful cottage, which at the time was a successful Turkish-themed restaurant. We knew instantly that we wanted to make this our home and our next venture.

Claire had previously established and run (for nearly fifteen years) a popular tearoom in the busy market town of Tadcaster, North Yorks. Adam was looking for a change from his work as an electronics engineer.

We spent the first winter transforming the premises into the homely but stylish environment you see today. Our building dates from around the 1760s, and is Grade II listed, and so sensitive improvements were needed to respect its character.

Our strategy was, and remains, to build a successful restaurant which, whilst allowing us the time and freedom to enjoy living in this beautiful area, also provides fantastic cuisine to residents and visitors alike.

Our passions, apart from enjoying our work immensely, are mountain biking, and walking on the Moors with our two bearded collies.

We thank you for taking the time to visit our website, and look forward to welcoming you here at Brandysnap Bistro.
